Before you begin
The questions people ask before a commission, answered plainly.

Ornate Werks
What is Ornate Werks?
Ornate Werks is a creative house in Hoosick Falls, New York. We make brands, websites, films and campaigns for people who still believe beautiful things are worth the trouble.
What do you make?
Four things, made properly.
- Brands: a name, a logo and identity, a voice and the words, packaging, signs and print.
- Websites: new sites and redesigns, online shops, booking and reservations, landing pages.
- Films: commercials and ads, brand films, social videos and product films.
- Campaigns: launches, social media content, photography and monthly content.
Who will I work with?
William Kennedy, the founder. Ornate Werks is one founder with tools no studio had five years ago, so the person you talk to is the person who makes your work, from the first idea to the day it goes live.
Where are you, and do you work with clients outside Hoosick Falls?
We’re based in Hoosick Falls, New York, and we work with clients anywhere in the world. Our work so far includes a tavern and a tree service here in town, a technology advisory in Latham and an auto glass shop in southwest Vermont. Most of a commission happens on screen, so where you are matters less than what you’re making.
What kinds of businesses do you work with?
Restaurants, bars and cafés; hotels; shops; real estate and architecture; professional services; technology; arts, culture and events; and personal brands. If you care how your business looks and sounds, we’d like to hear from you.
The work
Is everything you make in the old-masters style?
No. The paintings are our house style. Client work takes the shape of the client: a handbill for a small-town tavern, black and white with one signal blue for a technology brokerage, a clay toy-box world for a tree service. The care is the same; the look belongs to you.
What are the paintings on this site?
Our collection: modern life, painted the old way. The commute, the group chat, the phone that eats first at dinner, painted in the manner of the old masters, and many of them move. We make them with generative tools, directed and finished by hand. You can commission one of your own.
Do you use AI?
Yes, as one tool among many. A commission might combine art direction, photography, illustration, code, generative tools and a great deal of hand finishing. What we promise is the finished piece and the judgment behind it, not one way of making it. When a picture is generated, we say so, and we never call it a photograph.
Will people find my website on Google and in AI answers?
That’s part of the job. We build websites to be fast on a phone and easy to find, with the details search engines and AI assistants read: clear titles and descriptions, a sitemap, and structured information about who you are, where you are and what you do.
A commission
How does a commission begin?
With a few taps on the commission page: what you’re making, when it should be ready and a rough budget, then your name and email. It takes about a minute. William reads every message himself and writes back personally. After a conversation you get a written scope, setting out what we’ll make, when, the price and the payment schedule, agreed before any work begins.
How much does a commission cost?
Every commission is priced from its written scope, once we know what it needs. Most fall between $6,000 and $50,000, and ongoing work can be a monthly retainer. If your budget is different, write anyway: we’re open to all kinds of projects, and William will talk it through with you.
How long does it take?
It depends on your timeline, your budget and what you bring us. Most commissions take from a few days to about a month, and some take longer when the work needs it. If a date matters, tell us at the start and we’ll say honestly whether we can make it.
Who owns the work when it’s finished?
You do. Once it’s paid for, the finished work is yours. We may show it in our portfolio, and if you’d rather we didn’t, just say so and we won’t.
Do you look after a website after it launches?
If you’d like us to. We can host your site and look after it, keeping it fast and making changes as your business changes, from $150 a month. For an added cost we keep working on how it’s found on Google and in AI answers. Or you can move it wherever you like; it’s yours.
